Hollister is a quaint but ambitious up and coming little town. With several new businesses on their way, Hollister is quickly expanding and becoming a desired place to live. Malina Fortner was a pioneer who established her claim to the town in 1867. By 1904 Rueben Kirkham had opened a general store and had applied for permission to establish a post office. Kirkham suggested that the name of the town be Hollister after the birth place of his daughter which was in Hollister, California. In 1910 Hollister was incorporated as a town when Professor JW Blankenship became the first mayor.
