If the home you are living in has a small closet, don’t fret. There are plenty of ways to make your space more streamlined and organized, which will make it look bigger and more pleasing to your taste. With the use of some helpful methods, a few decorating tips, a little patience, and some perseverance, you will find that your small closet can be just right for you. Here are some great ideas that are sure to help you maximize your closet space without costing you a dime.

Remove any unnecessary items from your closet to maximize space. Plastic covering bags that come from your dry cleaner are not only useless but they don’t actually protect your clothes because they trap the dry cleaning chemicals in with your clothes. Because you want to maximize every bit of space in your closet, use thinner hangers and remove excess hangers. Leave only a handful of extra hangers in one spot so they are easy to find and use when hanging clothes back up.

Avoid mixing your long-hanging clothes with your short-hanging ones. Group your short-hanging pieces at one end of the closet and your longer-hanging clothes on the other end. This will give you more floor space where you can place a small dresser or a stacking shoe rack to help tidy up the bottom of your closet. Putting brighter lightbulbs, such as LED lights, in your closet can make it look bigger and can also make it easier to see your belongings.

The upper shelf of your closet can be used to place storage bins where you can put smaller items or accessories so they are easy to grab. You can use them to separate your folded clothing so they don’t topple into each other and create a mess or you can use them to organize smaller items such as socks.

Organizing and decluttering your closet can maximize your space as well as make it feel larger. Use the above tips to get the most out of your closet space.  Want to break the limits of the other small spaces in your home? Read our small storage solutions article for more tips and ideas.
