10 Things That Should Not Go In Your Junk Drawer

10 Things That Should Not Go In Your Junk Drawer

No matter how organized your home is, there will always be things to keep in a junk drawer. While junk drawers usually hold a variety of helpful odd things, they can quickly become a dumping area of clutter. To avoid it becoming a dumping ground, you need to know these ten things that should not go to your junk drawer.

Important papers

Don't put essential papers like insurance documents, pay stubs, bank statements, and receipts of your purchase of any essential products in your junk drawer. These items are something you don't want to get damaged or be lost, so they should be kept in their own safe space.

Take out menus

The menu that was given to you by a friend or that you have collected from your favorite restaurants should not go to your junk drawer. It would be best if you kept them in a safe place where you keep your relevant documents so that when you plan to a hold a party or order takeout, you can quickly locate it. But even when these occasions arise, if you can't find the menu, there's nothing to worry about! There are plenty of mobile ordering apps and easy to use sites where you can find menus and everything you need online.

Take out sauce packets

If you have the habit of saving the hot sauce, ketchup, or soy sauce packets that accompanied your purchase of a pizza or other takeout food, they should not be kept in a junk drawer. Instead, keep them directly in the fridge to preserve their freshness. Another idea is to store them in a reusable Tupperware container, so that when you have a family picnic or other outing, it'll be easy to take it with you.

Expired coupons

You may have the intention to use that coupon, but when you toss it in the junk drawer, you will likely forget all about it. Toss the expired coupons in the trash and free up the space in your drawer for something more useful.

Coupons

If you have expired coupons in your junk drawer, it will remind you that you shouldn't keep coupons in there at all. If you are keeping some coupons that aren't expired and you intend to use them, put them in a place that you can easily see them like on your fridge or bulletin board. Moreover, you can keep them in your wallet or purse, so you can have it with you, when it's time to use it.

Mail

Mails, bills, wedding invitations, and even flyers should not be kept in your junk drawer, but instead in another area with all things about paper. Be sure to avoid mixing these important papers with many other odds and ends. That's a habit that you don't want to create.

Coins

Coins should be kept in your coin purse or piggy bank and not in your junk drawer. If you find change in your pocket or around the house, place it in the right spot instead of throwing it in the junk drawer. That way, it's easy for you to remember where to get it when you need it.

Bobby pins

Bobby pins have no exact spot where to be kept, but they're sure not to be held in a junk drawer. You may have a hundred or so in a pack, and somehow, they seem to disappear magically. This magic trick will continue to happen if you always put loose bobby pins in your junk drawer. Instead, place them in the bathroom where they belong so you can find them easily.

Pens that don't work

Members of the household often search for a pen and open every drawer available, only to find out the pen no longer works. Instead of throwing that pen in the garbage, many of us toss it in the junk drawer. Empty pens should not be kept in your junk drawer. When you find it no longer writing, immediately throw it into a wastebasket.

Pushpins

Pushpins are used in the office to stick things on a bulletin board. It should not go to your junk drawer. Additionally, having sharp objects with a pointed tip in your junk drawer is dangerous since you're likely to get stuck by it when you are rummaging around in your drawer.

Keeping these ten items out of your junk drawer will make your home more organized. Moreover, taking these things out of junk drawer will only give more space for useful things needed for many household chores.
